Creation.

There’s been a lot of creating going down lately. Many thanks are owed to ambition; the ability to think and dream bigger. And I owe a huge thanks to those friends who are willing to take the risk with me. It’s been a while since I’ve regularly dropped anything new in respects of writing on the site. My apologies to those who regularly read and look forward to the “working man’s fiction.”  I’ve been pulling out a lot of short and old material as standbys. Oi I know! But it feels appropriate as I’m developing different things altogether. Which is simply a different experience this round. Why? It’s weird to be focusing on a larger project instead of small. That was all I've known. And although it has prepared me to do this, there is that feeling of unknown. It is unknown territory but exciting as all get out. There is a chance, alright more than a chance that this is going somewhere. I would love to tell you more but I cannot just yet. It’s truly amazing. I can’t stop smiling when I think of this imagining coming to life. And that is the thing about creating isn’t it?

 That thing has me thinking…

There’s something about creation that is amazing. It lets you use your imagination. And that can get as crazy as you let it. Which can be fun and occasionally there will be people who don’t like what you’ve imagined for whatever reasons they are entitled to feel that way.  You have to realize this in any artistic craft. And you know what they can have their opinions. The world would still be flat if not for other people seeing it differently. Can you imagine living in a world where that was a reality?

Now if you don’t like a work of art it isn’t a tragedy, but you must try to understand why you dislike it. Is it the emotion it evokes within you? Please let me grant you some insight that someone once shared with me… it isn’t the sad song punching you in the gut; it’s your reaction to the song. You can attack art, books, movies and music for the undesired emotions they inspire or you can understand a little more about yourself through your interpretation of them. But we must think first… What are we afraid of?

Back to creating... See the thing about art is that you are able to capture a moment or something that might not otherwise exist. And in that instance it’s magic, because it exists. But for a moment it’s amazing and real because you made it happen. You know?

Ultimately this is what art means. Creating from you. As creative types, creators, sometimes this means you tap into anything from external sources in addition to borrowing from ourselves. For moi on occasion that has been wonderful bliss and/or painful to tap into an emotional state to produce a character. Not always is the case, more not than often. But artists have this part of that needs to put it out there; to share their creation. And once it’s out there you hope that other people get it; that on some level they can relate to the work or simply understand it. And sometimes they do. And when they do… it is truly amazing. I love when people relate to anyone's artwork and are able to go “I know what you mean” or "I'm touched by it." Sometimes people don’t get it and you roll with whatever comes from that as I'm continuing to learn to do. 

Criticism of the craft is part of the job. I’ve learned that it hurts, but helps so very much.  Embrace what you fear. Creation is about jumping all the way in and not looking back at what has been [destroyed]. Think of Shiva [Hinduism]. Now I haven’t always felt this way. A little over a year ago I was terrified of people’s responses and now when I think of an idea that might be a bit radical I say “Why not?” instead of backing out of it.

Needless to say, there is no harm in imagining that in another universe that something was invented or perhaps something happened… Even if it will never be or that something invented can never be. HG wells wrote about a future place where technology ran rampant a hundred years before we live in a society where things are quite automated. Imagination is the most important tool that is available in this world must continue to use it as much as possible. Oh the things you will see... if you dare to dream.
