Human.

Human.

I did my best to notice
When the call came down the line
Up to the platform of surrender
I was brought but I was kind

And sometimes I get nervous
When I see an open door
Close your eyes, clear your heart
Cut the cord

Are we human or are we dancer?
My sign is vital, my hands are cold
And I'm on my knees looking for the answer
Are we human or are we dancer?

Pay my respects to grace and virtue
Send my condolences to good
Hear my regards to soul and romance
They always did the best they could

And so long to devotion
You taught me everything I know
Wave goodbye, wish me well
You've gotta let me go

Are we human or are we dancer?
My sign is vital, my hands are cold
And I'm on my knees looking for the answer
Are we human or are we dancer?

Will your system be alright
When you dream of home tonight
There is no message we're receiving
Let me know, is your heart still beating?

Are we human or are we dancer?
My sign is vital, my hands are cold
And I'm on my knees looking for the answer
Are we human or are we dancer?

You've gotta let me know

"Human" - The Killers

“Are we human or are we dancer?” A little of both I’m inclined to believe.

The human condition is what it means to be alive. Speaking, Touching, Sharing, and Participating with each other. In any way possible, it all makes a difference. The past present and future are based on what happens in every human life. Love to hear the stories, the anecdotes, the incidents, and the future plans of everyone possible. These things are fascinating and never without interest. You can be well read, but can you be well lived by the encounters with others and their stories?

We are all exactly the same and different. Every voice is different and no less special than any other one. No matter where or how it came to be. Your past does not make you ‘who you are’ and we all have our small beginnings, don’t we? A person that is solely defined by their past is not moving forward. Life circles… forward. A person’s voice is growth from their experience. Those experiences help and contribute to others and are of no less importance. You may not be as unique as a snowflake but your voice is your own right. Narrow minded opinion will only get you so far in this life. Especially of others when you don’t like what they have to say. Ah, but who are we to pass judgment? Certainly we are entitled to have an opinion and in that is the truth of it. Of course we could limit the individuality of other people’s lives, their voices and their contribution to the human condition but at what advantage? If you could choose, what would you want for these voices to tell you?

Perhaps to combine to say the same thing as you are thinking? Unified in thought and speaking about one thing only. A room is painted all white. White walls. White floors. You are all white. No color. Do you imagine and project a dazzling display of many colors or do you accept what is there and live with it all the same? To be direct… We know what we all sound like. Would that be preferable over hearing anything else? Like the room, is it better without anything else or anyone else but you in it? Disconnect from everything you know of, for a day. Listen only to your own voice and make that choice. You will be surprised by the result of that.

Or perhaps you would want the voices to combine to share a little more of their SHALLOW? Are we so accustomed to knowing the vague details that it has now become what matters most? It is our DEEP that matters. To only know the drama of another ones life is quite shallow. To get inside you have to understand the questions and stories about people. It isn’t in the simple details that we learn the most. Thankful are we to the constant drivel of the tube and web to provide the shallow facts of our friends and strangers, when we should be trying to understand the strangers, friends and those around us more deeply.

Listen for the deeper meanings in the stories of life around you in whatever form they find you. And remember although we do not enjoy something we can learn a lot from it being different from us. Learn to accept the imperfections in things around you, they hold much knowledge. Understand your aversion to something. Use your mind not your reaction. No one is expected to like the same things or hold that belief inside of them. Speak the truth without judgment. Call it the fair way. Honest kindness and even-handed compassion truly goes much further than a sword in the chest. Everything is flawed, but that is what makes us human. The human condition is built upon years of progress and newly discovered ways to change the world. Without the visions of the people to press forward there would not be… we would still be living all alone in rooms with bare walls.
