Imagination.

Do you see the head in the tree?
"In the world of words, the imagination is one of the forces of nature" - Wallace Stevens.
Imagination - The formation of a mental image of something that is neither perceived as real nor present to the senses. What happens when we let it get the better of us? We see ghosts and shadows where there are clearly none. Surrounded by voices and music as loud as the traffic of mid-day, noises that were never audible to the human ear. Frightening. Or perhaps the cloud in the sky really is a dragon swooping down to eat you. Fantastic! The newspaper you read daily has begun to print conspiracies that contain subliminal messages threatening our lives. Wow! The man in your rear-view mirror isn't really trying to get you, or is he? Oh no!
Anyhow, I've allowed my imagination to run wild, which isn't ever a bad thing for moi. The problem with imagination tends to be when its threatening to carry you off like King Kong. Ever have that happen? I understand that this happens for some. I bet it can be quite the thing to be afraid of two-headed monster that's not coming to get you. But remember fiction is fiction. I know because this is what I deal out. Nothing more and nothing less. You can see what you want but it can't be much more than that.
"The poet is in command of his fantasy, while it is exactly the mark of the neurotic that he is possessed by his fantasy" - Lionel Trilling.
Now I understand because the writing can be daunting and sometimes it's been hard to come back... Ah, let me explain. There is a bit of residual emotional baggage that I carry and it pulls at me a great deal. It's been about two weeks now and counting this round. And sadly the Devil has yet to make his appearance in the writing. The writing can be an interesting experience sometimes all in part thanks to my imagination. I wouldn't trade it in.
One might say that I should just give it up. When I think about giving it up, the thought crosses my mind: Why would I? It's still new and evolving. I don't know what will become of this. I have no expectations right now... But I can't give up. I want to continue, regardless if it's completely ridiculous. Person to person, artist to artist, friend to friend please understand that level. kisses. m.
"Imagination is more important than knowledge" - Albert Einstein.
